Need a Few More Details?
Wondering what this camp is all about? We’ve got answers to some of your most common questions:
Climbing Concerns
Climbing
What climbing skills will my child learn?
Campers will practice anchor building, an introduction to lead climbing, basic use of traditional climbing gear, and top-rope belaying with a Gri-Gri. They’ll also learn trail and crag etiquette, environmental stewardship, and teamwork.
Is prior climbing experience required?
No! We want this to be accessible to all and teach you the skills to climb and camp anywhere in the state.
Can I bring my own climbing gear?
Yes, it’s encouraged! If you have your own helmet, harness, shoes, or belay device, please bring them. All gear will be inspected by guides before use. If you need to borrow equipment, we’ve got you covered!
What happens in case of bad weather?
We’ll prioritize outdoor climbing, but in the event of poor weather, we’ll hold activities at Stonetree Climbing Center.
What safety measures are in place?
Safety is our top priority. Our guides are AMGA-certified Single Pitch Instructors with wilderness medicine training, and we maintain a 1:4 guide-to-climber ratio. Emergency communication tools are always on hand.
Camping Concerns
Camping
What kind of camping gear is required?
Campers need a sleeping bag rated for cooler nights, a sleeping pad, and a backpack for personal items. We also recommend extra layers like a jacket and pants for evenings. Don’t have gear? Reach out, and we can help!
Do participants need prior camping experience?
Not at all! Our guides will teach basic camping and cooking skills to ensure everyone feels comfortable.
What meals are provided?
Dinner, breakfast, and lunch are provided for the camping portion (Wednesday night through Friday). Campers should bring their own lunch Monday through Wednesday. Snacks like granola bars and trail mix will also be provided daily, but they’re not a substitute for a full lunch.
What’s the out-of-town climbing venue?
We’re working to secure a Big Sky destination for 2025 and will announce the location closer to camp.
How do you handle overnight safety?
Guides ensure safe sleeping arrangements, monitor campers’ health and hydration, and remain available for any needs throughout the trip.
